Clarity in Academic Writing

As you have learned, academic writing should be clear and easy to follow. As a writer it is your duty to try and guide the reader through your ideas so that they are not confusing or difficult to follow. We do this by using signposting words to show the reader how are writing is organised and cohesion to show the writer how our ideas are related.

Now try and improve the writing by using the useful phrases to fill the gaps.

Task: Post on the FutureLearn discussion forum. Have you used a signposting phrase in your writing? Share a recent signposting phrase you have used in your work.
